GETTING THE WORD OUT

I suspect most people who come to this blog are consultants to the SMB (small, medium-sized business) market and as such this often means you run, or help to run, your own small consulting business. In other words, you are most likely wearing multiple hats in your firm, from CEO to chief cook and bottle washer.

But the hat I want to talk about today is that of Marketer. I ran my own consulting business for 10 years and, without question, the most difficult part of the job, was that of getting the word out about the services I provided. And in the early 90s that meant cold-calling and networking, and not much else. I didn’t even create brochures or send out letters because it was too costly and time-consuming (and I didn’t have any artistic ability for creating brochures anyway).

Fast forward to today and the options for marketing your product are unlimited and mostly online. Email, websites, blogs (as I’m doing right now), social networking, and all types of electronic media are available to anyone willing to invest the time. But why spend all the time creating all this marketing material if Fishbowl has already done it for you? Product Info Sheet: Similar to the above overview sheet but it has much more detail on Fishbowl’s features. Two pages.

Fishbowl Enterprise: A two-page document discussing Fishbowl Enterprise, what market it is directed at, and what it provides.

Fishbowl Case Studies: Nothing has more impact than a happy Fishbowl customer in an industry similar to the one your client is working in.

Fishbowl Training Videos: Lots of training videos here, but the one I think that most people would be interested in is the Overview of QuickBooks – Fishbowl Integration. Frankly, considering that our direct integration with QuickBooks is our most important feature, I would say this video is a bit hard to find. It’s the first video in the Accounting section.

Grant Kimball is currently serving as vice president, partner relations and is one of the founders of Fishbowl.
